Over the years, members of the team who would go on to form Magna Studios have delivered a range of theming production services for Alton Towers Resort’s iconic Scarefest event, helping to elevate the immersive horror experiences with high-impact scenic design and manufacture.

The event’s renowned centrepiece—the haunted hearse—was given a spooky new lease of life, with team members playing a crucial role in its transformation. They developed technical drawings for a complete refresh of the iconic vehicle, including the engine, wheels, and exhaust, which were fabricated with precision. GRP wings and monstrous teeth were produced to give the hearse its fearsome new identity. The scope also included procurement of the vehicle and coordination of the integration of new and existing 3D characters and special AV effects, ensuring a seamless, theatrical finish.

In support of The COMPOUND scare maze, themed around the park’s legendary secretive organisation, the Phalanx, team members led technical design and CNC production of themed scenic elements—creating an industrial, post-apocalyptic atmosphere within the covert testing facility. The team also produced a set of CNC-machined Nemesis eggs, adding a striking visual link to the park’s wider narrative universe.

The result was a series of bold, immersive installations that heightened the fear factor and storytelling for one of the UK’s leading Halloween events.
